About us

Doing what is right, not what is easy

The Impact Centre is dedicated to make a difference to people’s lives in Albania and in the Balkans region. It is created, empowered and inspired by t he McCain Institute in Washington DC, where the IC founder participated at the Next Generation Leader's Program in 2017.

The centre identifies, trains and encourages youth to be active and be in the arena, to act and be the change they want to see. It offers training, research, media liaison, public outreach, policy work, continuous learning and exchange opportunities.

IC fosters new standards in the advancement of doer’s roles in public life, striving to achieve an exceptional point of reference for all.

Leadership Skills

What is a good leader? Is character linked with leadership? How? Today's world needs more leaders of character, in every profession and aspect of life. Sharing values and ethics, serving causes greater than oneself and doing it all with high INTEGRITY

New Movement: Women Can

Introducing Albania to the world through leaders of character, role models of integrity, modesty, sacrifice, service, courage, vision, ability to think strategically, inclusiveness, ethics and high standards, all explained through portraits of women who bear these elements, in the movement "Women Can"

Publications

Introductory innovative publications in making Albania known to the world, as well as guidelines, strategies, studies, reports, analysis and policy papers, mainly in the communication, education, human rights, good governance and participation

Motivational seminars

How to embrace accountability? What does "public service" really mean? Is it a vocation? Are you investing on your competence, or working on your character? What can you give to the country? Motivational seminars with students, organisations, teams and indiviudals from public and private sector.

What guides our work?

Areas of Expertise

Research, training, communication, skills development, advocacy and human development.

The Impact Centre promotes action and the transformation of good ideas into positive change for people and society, based on principles of accountability, audacity, civic participation, empowerment, equality and human dignity.

We use media and education sectors as cross-cutting themes on all its endeavours.

1. Research, training and development

More than 60 training sessions in communications, leadership and civic participation. Research for skills, employment, policy papers, strategies and guidelines on issues from media, democracy, to media, rule of law.

2. Character Driven Leadership

Over 500 trainees using the advanced curriculum of the McCain Institute in Washington DC. Preparing young leaders from public and private spheres to become leaders of character, ethics, integrity.

3. Good Governance

Cooperating with other NGOs in monitoring good governance, and in motivating youth and media to be better informed, prepared and ready to hold accountable all those responsible for the good governance.

4. Women Empowerment

Two books published about women: one promoting their values, and the second, analysing the representation of violence against women in the media. Training women and girls who run for office.

5. Civic Participation

Five series of forum discussions and training youth to conduct civic political campaigns. 3 open debates to convince new voters to cast their vote. Various papers and studies to encourage civic participation.

6. Human Rights and Values

International Conferences, forums, publications and discussions on Human Rights. Contributing to the literature on migrant's rights. Conducting research on the right to education and participation.

Edlira Gjoni

Founder, Executive Director

Communications professional, lecturer and trainer in Albania and abroad. A vital activist for Human Rights, Education, Women Participation in Politics and Youth Empowerment. Over 15 years of

International work experience. Brings a mixture of studies from Albania, Sweden and the USA

Alma Lama

Honorary Board Member

Mrs. Lama was Ambassador of Republic of Kosovo in Italy, 2016 - July 2019. Previously MP, a member of parliament. She initiated the first monument dedicated to the women during the war, (Heroinat). A former journalist and with a PhD in Political Science.

Altin Sinani

Board Member

Altin is a journalist in the written media who was the youngest editor in chief ever to lead a newspaper in 2008.

Mr. Sinani now leads an online media website and contributes regularly to the public discourse on democracy and rule of law in Albania.

Daniela Xhemalaj

Board Member

Daniela is one of the most respected medical doctors in Albania. She is an excellent pathologist and is known for her compassion, professionalism, servant leadership and ability to inspire others. She is active and a strong advocate of women' role in public life.

Erion Kurti

Board Member

A skilful, passionate and people-oriented banker, Erion is an asset to the board and to his workplace in the private sector as a credit risk manager. His impressive record on the finance sector includes risks analysis, portfolio management, monitoring, etc.

Edlira Lleshaj

Board Member

Graduated biologist, Edlira shifted early on her career to become one of the most successful entrepreneurs in Albania, a visionary shareholder. Edlira is a promoter of growth for young girls, employing more than 200 of them every year.

Blerina Dashi

With her excellent English, analytical skills, eye for detail and writing skills, Blerina joined the team initially as an intern, and now helps in writing project proposals.
